Obit: Merhib, Dorothy "Jean" 
Charlottesville, VA: Dorothy "Jean" Merhib, 80, of Charlottesville, Virginia passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 
12, 2012 after a brief but graceful and courageous battle with cancer. Born on April 15, 1931, in St. John's, 
Newfoundland, Jean moved to the United States after meeting and marrying her husband, John. They lived in Virginia, New 
York and Illinois before setting in Binghamton, NY where they remained for many years before retiring to The Villages in 
Lady Lake, FL. Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of 50 years, John D. Merhib in 2002. She moved to 
Charlottesville and for several years was a volunteer at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Survivors include son, David B. 
Merhib and his wife Brenda of Woodstock, GA; daughter, Lynn M. Merhib and her husband Tim O'Kane of Charlottesville; 
son, Jordan D. Merhib and his wife Kathy of Metamora, MI; sister, Mary Crickard of Sarnia, Ontario; grandchildren, 
Lauren Brooks Barbour and her husband Lincoln, Michael Merhib and his fiancée Danielle, Steven Merhib and his fiancée 
Janice, Kalil Merhib and his fiancée Jessica; and great-granddaughter, Kara Merhib. Jean's family was the center of her 
world. The family expresses heartfelt thanks to the caregivers and staff of Cornell 2 at Martha Jefferson Hospital and 
Hospice of the Piedmont. Your gentle and thoughtful attention eased the last stage of Jean's journey. A mass will be 
held at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Lady Lake, FL, followed by interment at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, 
FL.
